Maya Moore, @moorebeautylove on instagram is the owner of The Microblading Institute; The premiere permanent makeup and microblading facility in the Bay Area for services and training.
I’ve known Maya since I was very young and her contagious happiness and genuine spirit always made me feel so accepted and relevant. In 2005 (I was 16) I started working at Jovance Salon and Maya was the esthetician at the time, back then her focus was waxing and facials which she was so good at! We would go to lunch together often and she gave me rides to and from work, in those moments is when I got to see who she really was and little did I know then that she would be so intricate to my growth as a woman and beauty expert.
We’ve worked together for YEARS and in those years I have seen her go through life’s struggles and never let it hinder her hustle and desire to be better! I remember about three or four years ago when she was telling me about a training she was going to for “microblading” and how excited she was but that she wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do because of outside opinions. Well, she decided to go with her gut and go to the training and neither of us knew how much her career would change from that point. Since then I have witnessed her career do a COMPLETE 180 degree spin…and fast!

As soon as she started doing permanent makeup it seemed as if her drive to succeed kicked into high gear! Going from doing models for SUPER cheap in the spa room with bad lighting, to owning her own company that is the LEADING education and service center in the Bay Area for permanent makeup. She has definitely made a name for herself in the PMU industry! Every time I see her collaborating with other leading artists and companies, or I see someone say they almost fainted because she liked their instagram picture I think to myself “Yeah thats MY friend”!

What she does and has done doesn’t come easily and I know that she and her husband have put in tireless hours and efforts to keep the success train moving! I am so honored to feature Maya on my blog, everyone should know how great she is!
P.S she hates all this praise lol
I recently asked Maya a few questions about how she stays so inspired and if there was anything she could say to encourage other women just like her, lets see what she said!
~What inspires you?
“I fell in love with eyebrows almost twenty-five years ago. The inner drive to create the best brow each time for every client is what continues to inspire me and also share my knowledge and experiences with other artists.”
~What advice would you give women right now to help them feel their best?
“Setting achievable goals always helps me feel better! Learning a new valuable skill ( I’m really trying to learn how to sew). Taking time to pamper yourself and last, eating something really really good but that’s also very healthy.”
~What are your favorite products or brands that keep you feeling beautiful and inspired?
“My must haves are my Rodan & Fields reverse line, Nars All Day Luminous Foundation, Fields lash boost ( these I can’t do without lol), Thrive mascara, and my permanent powder brows. Definitely my hair by Dreamlesstresses. My hair is always perfect with her creations!”
~What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?
“I wasn’t a fan of corporate America and the politics. I’ve always been a creative person, but never wanted my own business lol. Sometimes things just happen automatically. I had been working for Jovance salon as an Esthetician for 12 years when I learned microblading. I loved what I did. I never imagined microblading would change everything for me. The demand grew so large I needed to expand into larger space and hire others. Trainings were always in high demand so that operation expanded as well. Now we have an online course platform and products too! It’s hard work but it’s worth it!“
~ How would you say the world of health and beauty compliment each other?
“They support each other. When you are healthy on the inside you feel better, you are happier, and when you are taking care of yourself on the outside you feel better. It’s the total wellness package! Unhealthy diets and lifestyles will eventually effect the way we look on the outside.“
~What are 3 tips you would give to anyone who is feeling down or low about their self esteem and wellbeing ?
Tip #1~Write a list of your accomplishments. With each accomplishment reflect on the journey to that achievement. Setting and accomplishing goals is always something to celebrate! Do not focus on your failures!
Tip #2~ Surround yourself with positive people. Sometimes you may not have the capacity to uplift yourself ( it’s normal, don’t think you’re the only one) BUT positive family, friends or a network of colleagues, may inspire you to feel differently about yourself. Ultimately it’s up to you.
Tip #3~ Dress and look the part! Have you ever heard the expression “fake it until you make it”? I don’t mean be a fake or disingenuous person, I mean exude the person you want to be everyday and work toward that goal. Your perception is your reality.
Tip #4~ Eat right and exercise! When your body has the proper nutrition and you get your heart rate up with exercise, your body releases endorphins and they literally trigger a POSITIVE FEELING IN THE BODY! That’s science. So if you’re feeling down, eating right and exercise are sure ways to make you smile again.
Consistency is the word I think of when going back through Maya’s story in my mind. We have to stay consistent pursuing our dreams ladies! No lie, every time I hear a thought that says “this isn’t going to go anywhere, your never going to end up where you want to be”, I think of stories like this to remind me to keep going.
THANK YOU MAYA for letting me feature you on health-is-beauty!
