Cherina CAPRI Perez (she goes by Capri) is the owner of a salon in the South Bay called Beyond Veneer.
Capri and I became “social media acquaintences” before we actually met in person. I don’t remember how exactly we started conversing with each other but I do remember my husband kept saying, “This lady keeps coming up on my search page, she’s a hairdresser and teaches classes at Aveda” (Aveda is relevant because thats the school I went to ). So of course he sends me her profile and that’s when I started following her!
Soon to follow I began attending her ‘Sip n’ See with Capri’ lnstagram LIVE sessions and I could tell she was an amazing person, artist and educator! Not too long after that, I went to my first and second extension class at her salon and I learned SO much! Her circle of colleagues and students were so warm and friendly, it felt like we were all a part of the same circle (which they may have been but they made me feel so welcome). Capri’s style of teaching is impeccable and her desire for her students to grasp knowledge is even more endearing. She keeps in contact with us, is willing to answer questions anytime and even offers her students to come in and shadow her! If you are a stylist or an aspiring one, I highly recommend to sign up for her courses when she offers them!
We may be “social media friends” but I see her drive and dedication everyday, and her genuine spirit emanates through her social outlets. She has three beautiful children and a husband and still manages to run three suites and her own clientele! That takes a lot of patience, organization and consistency!
I recently asked Capri to share where she gets her inspiration from and how she can help others who may be feeling blue, here’s what she said!
What inspires you?
“My husband—this man truly is a daily inspiration. As well as OTHERS! I am truly inspired by those who are driven towards more in life!! I’m also inspired by all three of my children, they are fearless and can really care less about what others think (hahaha).”
~What advice would you give women right now to help them feel their best?
“Start that THING you always wanted to do; read that book you’ve been eyeballing, start a podcast, do a live, start a blog! The more we do what fills our soul the more fresh and better we will feel about ourselves. I’m currently trying to exercise for thirty minutes a day and hopefully attempt to give myself a pedicure ASAP.”
~What are your favorite products or brands that keep you feeling beautiful and inspired?
“Summer Fridays is my favorite skin care line. Hair? I am lately obsessed with Alterna’s entire line. And I am die heart for Schwarzkopf!”
~What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?
“My family. To me, time is essential and being my own boss allows be to cultivate time to spend with those who I’m close with.”
~How would you say the world of health and beauty compliment each other?
“I think they marry well with one another! Beauty is so much more than what we see. The same goes for health. When we cater to a better lifestyle it makes us feel better, gives us energy, and shifts our perspective on life. I believe the beauty industry has that same Component. When a client leaves my chair, yes, she’s leaving with a new look however, there is a boost of self esteem knowing that another person sees value in her new style. Ultimately health and beauty, when exercised in a healthy manner, tends to uplift and inspire others.”
~ What are 3 tips you would give to anyone who is feeling down or low about their self esteem and wellbeing ?
1. Take a pause and truly reflect on the areas that can be changed and the areas that can’t. Too many times we try to fix things that are not meant to be changed and for the wrong reason (usually for others). However, I think it’s extremely important to understand the areas where you could possibly fix and encourage yourself more. For example, if I want to live a healthier lifestyle and want to go on a journey of training my body to be in the best condition for life, I personally have the ability to change and boost my self-esteem
2. Try not to compare. I believe comparison is the thief of joy. We live in a society where it is so easy to scroll and compare! However, we always think the grass is greener but sometimes others just know how to Photoshop the picture better.
3. Encourage others. At times self esteem is rooted in SELF. When we take time to build others, encourage one another and inspire others we have very little time to focus on what we don’t like about ourselves.
When I think of Capri I think of “wisdom”. Someone who has experienced many things, matured in many areas, and is now able to share her knowledge with the rest of us! Everything she does she does it with so much grace and humility, and yet she continues to strive for success!
Thank you SO much Capri for being a part of Health-is-Beauty!
