Brandi Watkins is the owner of Trés Chic ; a full service styling company and boutique that specializes in helping people feel their best through what they wear.
I have known Brandi for years, even before she started her company Tres Chic! She always had the cutest style and wore the best accessories and shoes! So obviously when she started her company I was not surprised in the least bit.
When I think of someone who is fully committed and gives her all, I think of Brandi. Not a day goes by when I don’t see her working through social media! From posting merch for sale to posting the closet purging she does for her clients, it seems like she never stops!
All of the cutest things in my closet I can honestly say have come from Tres Chic. A couple of years ago the owner of my salon asked Brandi to do a pop up in the salon, and let me tell you, that was one of our best decisions! Even though pop ups are supposed to be just that, a pop-up/pop-out, everyone loves her merchandise so much that we couldn’t let her “pop-out”! So every week, sometimes multiple times a week, Brandi brings in new items and each time they sell like hot cakes! Personally, I had to give myself a once a week rule about going into the Tres Chic boutique because I was getting the side eye from my husband (lol). The items are TOO CUTE TO NOT BUY (thats what I told him when I came home with more clothes).
Not only does she run a fabulous boutique but Brandi also has an amazing website with SUPER cute merchandise! Be sure to check out here site HERE! Use code :mkcarter: for 15% OFF your entire purchase!
But that’s not all folks! Brandi has an amazing skill for organizing cluttered wardrobes as well! So if you have been dreading the task, or maybe need some emotional support to cleanse, reach out to Tres Chic! She can do virtual closet sessions during this time of quarantine! As you can see, Tres Chic is an amazing company! All that it is today definitely took patience, time, and so much commitment. One thing that I have always admired about Brandi is her consistency and dedication to her work! She may not know it all the time but she is truly inspirational and I have gleaned so much from her!
I was able to ask Brandi a few questions regarding how she stays so inspired and also what advice she could give to inspire others, lets see what she said!
~What inspires you?
“I’m inspired by the mere fact that you can choose how you want your story to be told. Nobody decides that for you and you can rewrite your story if you so choose. Every day is a new beginning for you to tell that story.”
~What advice would you give women right now to help them feel their best?
“You won’t always feel your best but don’t let this be common. You have to put in work to feel good about yourself. Some of us are wired to be self deprecating and we have to rewire our brain to change that thinking. You have to also realize that if you do small things to feel good about yourself, no matter who’s around, it could instantly change your mood. For instance, I always do my hair even if I’m going no where. For you it might be to put on that lipgloss, or to do that yoga session. The little things we do to take care of ourselves can instantly boost our confidence. Some days require more work than others but you need to make sure there’s some effort and I promise a little goes a long way some times.”
~What are your favorite products or brands that keep you feeling beautiful and inspired?
“I really think Glossier does a good job at making all women feel beautiful. They use women of different ages, sizes, and color range to market their products. These are women you wouldn’t often see in ads but yet so many identify. I feel beautiful when I see a company is able to celebrate all types of beauty and hair types instead of just singling out one look. The world is too colorful around us just to draw with one crayon.”
~What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?
“I could write a book on this! I was already working for many years before I decided to make the switch to full time entrepreneur. It was a natural transition because of the demand. I may not be popular for saying this but I don’t feel like this life is for everyone. Working for yourself is hard, you sacrifice a lot of fun, niceties of life, money, time spent with family and friends to work on your vision. There’s not always a balance but in the end you learn to put everything in its rightful place.”
How would you say the world of health and beauty compliment each other?
“This is a big question but there’s definitely a relationship. When you are healthy, you cant help but emanate some type of beauty, and true beauty comes from someone who is healthy. Of course most of us see beauty as the makeup department but it’s deeper, because if someone is taking care of themselves, seeing their own value, taking care of their mind, body, and soul it can’t help but radiate to those around them and that my friends is beautiful.”
~ What are 3 tips you would give to anyone who is feeling down or low about their self esteem and wellbeing ?
“This is a great follow up to the third question.”
1) Do something for yourself, some call it self care, others call it hobbies, or whatever it is, do something that you can be proud of every day. This will vary depending on the day and your life demands but it’s imperative that you do this once a day even if you have a few minutes. Reading a book, drinking your favorite hot tea, taking a walk, giving yourself a pedicure, whatever it is do it but make sure it’s actually beneficial and it doesn’t always have to cost money!
2) Put in effort when you don’t feel great. Consistency is key, if you continue to lay around in sweats and not do your hair or keep yourself up it can and will have a direct impact on how you feel. Pay attention to that. We are wired by habits so always ask yourself what habit are you creating?
3) If you don’t like something change it! Hated your hair your whole life? Book that appointment at the hair salon. Want to know how to cook better? Watch more food network. I think you get the idea, sometimes we feel bad about things that are very easy to change. We don’t have to feel dumb with all of the resources at our fingertips. You may feel like this is off base since this is an interview for a health & beauty blog but it’s not. We have the power to change many things in our lives and for the things we can’t we must learn to embrace them.
Each time I read Brandi’s responses to my questions I get a surge of empowerment! I love everything she said and I know you did too!
Brandi thank you SO much for your words and for being a part of Health is Beauty!
